خلاصة

This paper examines the existence of the inflation-growth threshold in Iraq based on annual data converted to quarterly data for the period 2005-2019. The authors used Chow and Lin method to convert the data to quarterly and Hansen method to estimate the threshold. Based on the Bai-Perrron test, at most one threshold of inflation-growth was detected. The main result is that the inflation-growth threshold in Iraq is 6.08%. The results indicate that the inflation rate before the threshold has no significant effect on economic growth, while it will have a negative effect on growth if it exceeds the threshold. One of the important findings of the paper is that the fiscal policy will be effective and positive if the Central Bank of Iraq defends an inflation rate below the threshold, and it will also have a negative policy impact beyond the threshold.
